Johnny Depp’s relationship troubles have been well documented over the past couple years since he began dating actress Amber Heard. After she accused him of domestic abuse, Depp was arrested and pleaded not guilty to charges of felony domestic violence. He later dropped his lawyer, hired a team of high powered lawyers, and issued a series of bizarre statements. Now, Depp and Heard appear to be back together again, even though they were never actually married. So what happened? Well, it turns out the two had a prenuptial agreement that prevented them from getting divorced before their wedding. That meant if they got a divorce, each would receive half of the money from their assets including property, investments, and earnings. But now that they’re legally married and are no longer considered just cohabitating, both parties can get divorced.

Amber Heard’s Testimony In Court

When his ex-girlfriend filed for divorce, Johnny Depp didn’t deny the allegations, but instead chose to fight her claim in court. In fact, he said he never hit Heard at any point in their relationship. However, the judge decided enough evidence existed to grant the divorce and awarded Heard $7 million. One of the biggest points of contention between the two was whether or not Depp was ever abusive towards Heard. She claimed he tried to strangle her and beat her when they first started dating. He admitted to punching her in the face, but denied hitting her harder than that. At the time of their marriage, Depp and Heard signed a prenuptial contract. And according to it, Depp could only own 50 percent of everything they owned, including house, car, and any property they might purchase in the future.

Johny Depp’s Divorce Settlement

In 2017, it was reported that Depp received a $7.5 million settlement after filing for divorce from Amber Heard. He agreed to pay $7 million cash and give Heard $25 million worth of real estate. In addition to this, Johnny Depp was ordered to pay Heard spousal maintenance of $20,000 per month until she completes her acting career. On top of that, Depp has to pay for Heard’s legal costs and attorney fees.

Amber Heard’s Career Prior To Marriage

Before she met Johnny Depp, Heard was already making some serious waves in Hollywood. She starred in several movies prior to meeting Depp including; ’21 Jump Street’, ‘X Men Origins: Wolverine’ and ‘The Rum Diary’. According to IMDB, she has five credits under her belt, but none of those roles are anything special. Before starring alongside Tom Cruise in ‘Knight & Day’, she appeared in small parts in films such as; ‘Magic Mike’, ‘Divergent’ and ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’. Her best role prior to marrying Depp was probably playing Alice Cullen in the horror film ‘Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’.Johnny Depp Amber Heard

Amber Heard’s Post-Divorce Job Prospects

After divorcing her husband and receiving the $7 million settlement, Heard took a break from acting. However, she did star in the film ‘The Box’. Since then, however, Heard hasn’t done much work outside of taking care of her children. Heard has three kids with Depp: daughter, Lily Rose, and sons, Jack and Thomas. While she’s still young, she has plans to pursue modeling and acting once her kids are older.
